💥 Big News
Anthropic Brings Back Fable 5 After a 19-Day Global Shutdown →
After 19 days offline, Claude Fable 5 is back globally on Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Cowork. The US Department of Commerce lifted export controls June 30, ending a shutdown triggered by a jailbreak (a technique for bypassing a model's safety guardrails) that let the model produce exploit code. Anthropic redeployed it with a new classifier that blocks the specific technique in over 99% of cases.
Pro, Max, and Team plan users can access it now at no extra cost, included in up to 50% of weekly usage through July 7, then via credits. Some coding prompts may reroute to Opus 4.8 due to the tighter guardrails.
Why it matters:
- Available now to Pro, Max & Team subscribers at no extra cost through July 7
- New safety classifier blocks the jailbreak that caused the shutdown in over 99% of cases
- Anthropic agreed to give the US government early access to frontier models before future releases
Google Expands Gemini Spark to Mac With New Apps and Live Tracking →
Google just brought Gemini Spark, its background AI agent, to macOS. You can now give it tasks across your Mac desktop, like sorting files into folders or building budget spreadsheets from saved invoices. You can even kick off work remotely from your phone and let it finish on your computer while you're away.
Spark also connects to Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals, plus Google Tasks and Keep. It can now track topics in real time and alert you the moment something happens across news, sports, or finance. Available in Beta to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US.
Why it matters:
- Gemini Spark now runs on Mac for desktop file sorting, scheduling, and app tasks
- New integrations include Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable & Zillow Rentals
- Real-time topic tracking sends alerts for news, sports, and finance without any manual refreshing

It comes with a native 1M-token context window (roughly 750,000 words of input at once), stronger reasoning and tool use than Sonnet 4.6, and is now the default model in Claude Code. It's available across all plans at introductory pricing through August 31.
Why it matters:
- Available now across all Claude plans at introductory pricing through August 31
- 1M-token context window lets you feed in entire codebases, documents, or long projects at once
- Now the default model in Claude Code, with stronger reasoning & tool use than its predecessor
